Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad Ego?
I am!
This is not an earth-shaking revelation. In fact, it is not even a revelation.
So how afraid am I?
I avoid labels. A label is an identity and the minute identity enters the equation, so does Big Bad Ego.
The problem is that labels are seductive.
Cultured — It’s painful admitting that I don’t know a famous work.
Good at Mental Math — It’s embarrassing to stumble when doing a calculation.
Charming — Why did that person not like me?
It’s difficult countering the ego’s defense. My hiding the battles makes it more difficult.
* * * * * * * *
The more I think about it, the more I think the ego shows up with every label because labels are part of the ego’s defense. Seduction is rarely innocent.
Can I let go of all the labels? Will I show the real me?
